Emir of Kano Receives NISafetyE Delegation Ahead of 2022 Investiture and Swearing-In Ceremony of National Exco

– Says Safety Engineers Critical to National Development.

The Emir of Kano, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero has underlined the pivotal role of safety engineers in the infrastructural development of Nigeria.The royal father made the declaration when he received the National Chairman elect of the Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers, Engr. Akaninyene Ekong, ahead of 2022 national investiture and swearing-in ceremony in Uyo Akwa Ibom State.

Welcoming the incoming National Chairman and his delegation from NSE Kano Chapter, Bayero commended the courage and foresight of the incoming National Chairman in repositioning the Institution.

Bayero told the delegation: “You are leading the Institution today not because you are the most senior or brilliant Engineer, but because you were chosen by God.”I congratulate you on your appointment as the National Chairman NISafetyE. I will ensure Northern Safety Engineers are incorporated in your institution as this will help in developing Safety competency through your training programs and expanding socio cultural cooperation and I do hope that your institution will promote unity amongst members.”

The royal father stated that if Safety Engineers fail to do their duties it will have serious consequences as seen in engineering related failures where Safety Engineers were not consulted.The Emir continued that Safety is needed in Kano as it is an Industrial hub and assured Ekong of his support and that of the emirate.

Bayero revealed that he has friends in Uyo and asked Ekong to extend his regards to them and the Northern Community back in Akwa Ibom.

Earlier, Ekong had intimated the Kano monarch that they were in the palace to request that the emir grace his investiture of the new executive of the institution and swearing in ceremony on the 5th of February 2022 in Uyo Akwa Ibom State as the Royal Father of the Day.

Ekong stated that as a professional engineering body the institution cannot be truly national without engineers from the north as members, to foster unity of purpose , development and peace.

Ekong thanked the Emir for his kindness in accepting to see him and his delegation at a very short notice.He prayed for the Emir’s health /Safety and for his dynasty, and underscored that they came to pay respect to him as the Emir of Kano and as a national traditional leader.

The National Chairman elect, Engr. Akaninyene Ekong, FNISafetyE introduced himself to the Emir and the Kano Emirate Council as a Fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (NISafetyE) from Akwa Ibom State andAmong members of the delegation were Chairman, Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, Kano branch, Engr. Tijjani Dayyabu; NSE Kano branch Exco members; Engr. Hauwa Ibrahim Khaleel of the Association of Professional Women Engineers in Nigeria(APWEN); other Senior Engineers and representatives of Young Engineers Forum, Kano.
