….caution party faithful against heating up the polity

Ikono PDP stakeholders under the aegis of Forum of Ward Chairmen have condemned in strong terms, attempts by some politicians within and outside Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency to heat up the polity, create tension and cause unrest in the ahead of the 2023 House of Representatives seat.

This position was made known in a communique issued by the forum titled, “Purported Position Paper in respect of Ikono/Ini House of Representatives seat”.

The Forum, in particular, dissociated itself and condemned in its entirety from the discrete schemes of Barr. Moses Akpan, the State Organising Secretary of the Party, to cause confusion aimed at overheating the polity for his selfish interest while warning woe-mongers to desist from commercializing/dropping the Governor’s name over trivial issues.

As custodians of the party at the grassroots in the federal constituency, the forum noted that they had not been consulted, nor witnessed or heard of any zoning arrangement between the two sister LGAs regarding the House of Representatives seat, stressing that since 1999, they had witnessed aspirants from the two sister Local Government Areas keenly contesting for the ticket within and without the PDP.

They sued for all inclusiveness in decisions concerning the elections, particularly in the build-up to the forthcoming 2023 General elections in order to safeguard and guarantee elections success for the Party. Furthermore, they pledged their unalloyed loyalty to Governor Udom Emmanuel, the leader of the party and their commitment to the actualization of his completion agenda.

In a related development, Barr Goddy Umoh, the Secretary of Ikono Leadership Council as well as the Chapter Youth Leader of the Party, Mr David Idiong, have both disclaimed the inclusion of their names in the said publication by few persons in Ikono.

They have stated categorically that there was no such meeting held by Ikono Leadership Council to discuss the issue of zoning of Ikono/Ini House of Representatives seat.

Barr Umoh stressed that there is no concensus where only 10 out of 20 members of any forum are in agreement, advising all those involved to focus on the completion and succession agenda of the Governor, Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, rather than heating up the politics of the area.
