Our attention has been drawn to a video currently floating on the social media space where the purveyors had tried to make the video appear as if the recordings were done at a recent event and certain assertions wrongly and maliciously attributed to His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel.

The obviously sick cranks were clearly clever by half, because the video in question was recorded in November 2018.

We recognize the fact that the fever of the 2023 elections has been unleashed, and is beginning to grip certain political elements and the push to indulge in vile blackmail and outright lies may present an attractive proposition to those elements.

For the avoidance of doubts, we wish to make this clarification and state the facts as they are: In the lead- up to the gubernatorial elections in 2019, and in furtherance of the threats by certain politicians in the State to unleash a war on the people as loudly proclaimed in the now famous “Warsaw Saw War” line, an unsuccessful attempt was made by five renegade State House Members to remove the then Speaker, Rt. Honourable Onofiok Luke now the Member Representing Etinan Federal Constituency, at the National Assembly and to replace him with Nse Ntuen, the then House Member Representing Essien Udim State Constituency in the State House of Assembly.

To achieve their mission, the renegade members brought in thugs who broke into the House Complex, and breached the sanctity of the Hallowed Chamber of the Assembly, in order to allow a safe entry for their “Speaker” Nse Ntuen. Videos of the disgraceful and laughable conduct are all over the social media.

In all that had occurred on that day, it appeared the Police had stood idly by, and refused to stop the charade from occurring thus fuelling the general belief then, that the Police was actively supporting the renegade House Members in their attempt to commit the illegality. Remember, the “Warsaw Saw War” generals had promised to unleash the Federal Might on the State, and have the elections conducted and concluded in three hours. These facts are in the public square, as widely reported by The Premium Times of November 24th, 2018 and other major news outlets.
As the Chief Security Officer of the State, His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel, had rushed to the House of Assembly and soon, things returned to normal. The renegade House Members were later seen scampering off the Hallowed Hall of the State House of Assembly.

At a Press Conference later at the foot of Governor’s Lodge in Government House, Uyo, the Governor had openly called on the then Inspector General of Police to ensure that the Police remain impartial, not partisan or be seen to aid and abet the breakdown of law and order in the State.

The Governor NEVER said that “Police released armed Fulani militia we arrested and gave the AK-47s back to them” as maliciously stated by the merchants of blackmail.

It also bears repeating that Akwa Ibom State Government has enjoyed a robust relationship with the Nigerian Police as well as with other security agencies in its drive to make the State peaceful, safe and secure for the people and numerous investors who are trooping into the State. It is sad, deplorable and utterly despicable for anyone to intentionally conflate a clear line as expressed by the Governor with an imaginary “Fulani militia.”

Members of the public are hereby enjoined to dismiss this cheap, laughable and asinine blackmail.

Chief Press Secretary/Senior Special Assistant (Media) to the Governor
