GOV EMMANUEL CONDEMNS ATTACKS ON SECURITY ASSETS

Governor Udom Emmanuel has condemned the attacks on security assets within the state in the last couple of days.

He has assured that strategic steps are being taken in collaboration with security agencies to tackle the anomaly.

These decisions were made known during the meeting of the Executive Council of the Akwa Ibom State Government presided over by Governor Udom Emmanuel, Monday at Government House Uyo.

Briefing Government House correspondents, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong disclosed that the Governor will feature in the regular live electronic/online media interactive programme, ‘The Governor Speaks’ on Friday, to field questions on a wide range of issues within the state.

The Commissioner disclosed that the Council also upgraded the Sexual and Gender Based Violence Response Unit to a full department in the Ministry of Justice for a more effective response in tackling the rise in sexual and gender based violence in the state.

The new department is to collaborate with the Ministries of Women Affairs & Social welfare and Ministry of Health, as well as other critical agencies.

On Agriculture, the State Executive Council directed that School farms be established in all Public Secondary, Technical and Primary Schools in the state.

Additionally, the Ministry of Education was directed to make Agricultural Science a compulsory subject in all public schools while Agricultural science teachers are to be recruited and posted to all schools.

Meanwhile the State Executive Council has decided that all youth corps members posted to the state are assigned to schools to teach.

The exco meeting which was presided by the Governor, had in attendance, the Deputy Governor, Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Head of the Civil Service, Commissioners and Special Adviser.
