The Akwa Ibom State Government has again reiterated her determination to turn around the fortune of the State College of Education, Afaha Nsit.

The Government made the commitment during a fact finding visit to the College on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 to assess the problems confronting the institution.

Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Ephraim Inyang -Eyen, assured that, there is no going back by Governor Udom Emmanuel on his determination to upgrade the College to a Degree Awarding Institution.

The CoS who led a high powered delegation on the visitation panel including the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet , Information and Strategy Commissioner, Comrade Ini Ememobong, Environment Commissioner, Mr Charles Udoh and their counterpart in charge of Works and Fire Service, Professor Eno Ibanga gave assurance that, a comprehensive and detailed review of all the challenges faced by the institution will be submitted to the Governor and announced that, Governor Emmanuel has already directed that construction of internal roads in the College should commence immediately.

He revealed that, the visitation panel was carefully selected to address the environmental, educational and infrastructural problems confronting the School as the Commissioners have the directives of Governor Emmanuel to

He commended the Governing Council of the School and the Provost of the College for leading the institution in the right direction and assured that, the State Government will work to resolve all the problems in the institution.

Earlier in his address, the Provost of the College, Dr Daniel Udo thanked the August visitors for the fact finding visit and thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for supporting the college as it transits to a Degree awarding institution.

Dr Udo intimated the Panel on the needs of the College, which he listed to include, Perimeter fencing and alarming insecurity, Construction of internal roads in the college to open up the school, which he stressed is a precondition for full accreditation to a Degree Awarding Institution as well as meeting other requirements to achieve full of some courses in the College.

Other needs highlighted by the Provost are the building and equipping of the proposed College Health Center, Hostels renovation, construction of the proposed College Cafeteria for Students and staff of the College and release of take-off grant for mobilization fund to increase all needed facilities in the school.

The Provost also made a passionate appeal for the provision of official cars for the newly appointed staffsl of the institution since they met none on ground.

Officials of the Institution who were present at the parley include the Deputy Provost Academics, Dr Esther Andrew the Registrar, Barrister Etim Udoekpo and other members of the Governing Council of the College.

The Provost later conducted the Visitation Panel around the College to see the for themselves and have first hand knowledge of the environmental and structural problems earlier reported to the State Government.
