AKSG ORGANIZES TRAINING FOR FRONTLINE HEALTH WORKERS ON COVID-19.
In its continuous efforts toward fighting the dreaded COVID-19 Pandemic, the Akwa Ibom State Government has organized a “Train-the-Trainer” workshop for Frontline Health workers in the state.
The workshop which focused on Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Measures in COVID-19 response, was held in the Conference room of the Hospitals Management Board at the Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat Complex, Uyo.
Declaring open the one-day intensive seminar, the Chairman of the State Hospitals Management Board, Dr David Udo-Umo, disclosd that the training was necessitated by the need to sensitize the health workers on how to prevent and control the spread of infections in health facilities as well as reduce health care associated infections and outbreaks.
The Chairman reiterated that, it was pertinent to note that not all illnesses with similar symptoms are COVID-19 related adding that, attention must also be given to other health emergencies while still fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
Noting that the workshop on Infection prevention and control measures is very apt as health workers are daily being exposed to patients who may be Infectious, Dr. Udo-Umo said, health workers are also proned to working in environment that may be contaminated and without proper IPC measure in place.
The Chairman intimated that, as a train-the-trainer workshop, the health workers who are being trained by the IPC personnel from the State COVID-19 Incident Management Committee will in turn train other health workers in the 42 Secondary Health Facilities across the State.
Explaining that a triage area will be created in all the hospitals where patients with the coronavirus symptoms can be attended to before being moved to the appropriate quarters for testing and treatment, Dr. Udo-Umo said these areas will be manned by focal persons who are also medical personnel.
Seminar topics presented at the workshop included; Basics of COVID-19 – History, Epidemiology, Clinical Presentation and Management, Introduction to Infection Prevention and Control; Standard Procedures.
Understanding Transmission Based Precaution. Environmental Cleaning and dilutions of disinfectants. COVID-19; Screening and Triaging Guideline in Health Care Facilities as well as Appropriate use of PPE, Donning and Doffing of PPE.
