The Coalition of Human Rights Defenders, (COHRD) has urged the Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio, to make public his handover note to his successor, Governor Udom Emmanuel.

Speaking through the Organization’s Secretary, Comrade.Eneh John, it said, that the humongous amount expended on projects during his reign as Governor, was a far cry to the reality of the times.

The group challenged the Former Governor, to follow in the footsteps of the former Governor of Anambra State, Mr.Peter Obi, who recently published his handover note to the present Governor of Anambra State, Mr.Willie Obiano.

It further said, that, transparent leaders do not wait to be probed by the people, or doubts raised about their deeds in office, but in the world over, accountability to the people is the watchword in every administration.

Godswill Akpabio should tell us, how much he left in the state coffers, in terms of local investment, foreign currency investment, Federal Government approved refund for projects executed at the state level, liabilities, etc, and the net worth of the state, as at May 29, 2015, when he left office.

Recollect that, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is currently probing Akpabio, on an alleged N108.1Billion fraud, published in Premium Times of June 24, 2015 and also another fresh probe of 1.4Billion Naira bank gift for unknown reasons, published in The Punch Newspaper of September 21, 2017.

COHRD said, a consortium of Akwa Ibomites had since 2014, demanded for Akpabio’s probe, over the inflation of the cost of the international stadium built in the state. It argued that, the 65billion Naira quoted as cost of building the 30,000 seat capacity stadium with only a football pitch, was a hoax and a huge fraud.

Akpabio has ignored several queries in the past about his administration, and has never rendered his financial stewardship to the people, apart from the empty boast, which he makes about his elephant projects.

The group urged the former Governor, to come clean, as Akwa Ibomites were interested in his 8year tenure as Governor in the State.
