AKWA IBOM 2018 NATIONAL SAFETY ENGINEERING CONFERENCE HOLDS IN UYO, WEDNESDAY

The Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (NISafetyE) has announced their preparedness to host its 2018 Annual National Conference, tagged: Accident Prevention, The role of Government: From a Safety Engineering Perspective, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital from Wednesday 14th – Friday 16th Nov. at the Ibom E- Library.

 

This was made known by the State Chairman of the body, Engr. Akaninyene Ekong during a visit to the Akwa Ibom State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Mr. Sunday Oghenekaro, over the weekend.

 

According to Engr. Ekong, the purpose of visiting the Federal Road Safety Commission ahead of the National Conference is to intimate them of their activities, create awareness about the conference, while also seeking avenues of partnering with them to develop a culture of safety in the state and country at large.

 

“The idea is to create awareness for our conference and activities and also partnering with the Federal Road Safety Corps on National Workshop on Petroleum Tanker Safety” he said.

 

Ekong, who doubles as the National Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers, stated further that the aim of the conference is enormous, as participants will not only be abreast with the necessary knowledge and skills in Petroleum Tanker Safety, but will also be equipped in other aspects of safety that will guide their daily operations on the road and working environments.

 

He announced that the event which will kick off on Wednesday, 14 November, will have the Safety Awareness Walk, National Workshop on Petroleum Tanker Safety with perspectives from Automobile Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Welding and Fabrication, Oil and Gas Industry regulations, Legislation and Enforcement for Public safety, Highway Engineering and Road Safety, while Thursday. November 15, will be the National Conference.

In his remark, the State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Mr. Sunday Oghenekaro, expressed his readiness and total commitment to ensuring a hazard free state, most especially during this ember season.

 

He used the opportunity to brief the body the impact his command has made to reduce road accidents in the state, while also enumerating plans by the commission to establish the road furniture manufacturing facility of the Federal Road Safety Corps to produce road signage and other materials for contractors etc, with an aim to ensure safe road usage.

 

The state FRSC boss commended NISafetyE for the proposed conference, promising to attend the programme and give its utmost support towards the success of the event.
