- Insist on Swimming With Gov Emmanuel
Councilors in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have risen with one voice to affirm their loyalty and support to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The councilors who stated this after a crucial meeting with Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem PDP National Legal Adviser told journalists that they will rather swim and sink with the ruling party in the state than defecting to the All Progressives Congress.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, the leader of the Etim Ekpo legislative council Hon. Ifiok Amos alleged that the former Senate minority leader and ex Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio and the member representing Abak Federal constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Ekon offered them N5 million each and new vehicles to defect from the PDP.
According to him, “we were offered N5 million each and new cars to abandon PDP, for APC but We cannot betray the party that gave us hope with a better future. We have some internal issues which have been resolved. We cannot betray our elders especially the Party National Legal Adviser who stood by us to ensure our emergence as councilors. we assure our people that Etim Ekpo remains PDP and will vote PDP from Local Government through state to federal level in the next elections”.
The leader noted that no amount of pressure or gratification from the opposition leaders will change their stance and resolve.
Also speaking, the National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem said a politician who plays politics on a partisan note should not be seen to easily defect as those in that rank have nothing to live or die for.
According to Enoidem, “it is sad that our supposed prominent leaders have faltered because they don’t play politics of ideology and principles”.
Throwing more light on the issues, Enoidem said, they have told me their challenges which is usual in every political terrain not just peculiar to Etim Ekpo. But they have assured me that notwithstanding their challenges, they will remain in PDP”.
The PDP National legal Adviser said he has advised and reconciled the executive and the legislature of Etim Ekpo to synergise and work like a family for the common good of all the Etim Ekpo people.
I have told them that leadership is about taking people along, showing love, direction and cohesion at all times. The good news is that they have all assured me that they will remain in PDP and be on the good side of history as people who easily defect remains on the negative judgment of history no matter how big or highly placed”.
Enoidem further stated, ”One of the most dynamic things in the world is politics but it is bad when people are playing politics without principles and ideological direction.
I expect the leadership of the council to live up to expectation at all times.
We have resolved the disaffection between councilors and the council chairman with a charge to work as one united family.
On his own, a former Chairman of Etim Ekpo Hon. Uduot Jack said the attempt by Chief Akpabio and Hon. Ekon to infiltrate the council area was an effort in futility as the council is locked out any opposition against the incumbent PDP government in the state.
Hon. Jack said the people of Etim Ekpo have resolved to stand with PDP and Governor Udom Emmanuel till 2023.
Others present at the meeting were all the ten councilors the Council Chairman Hon. Udeme Eduo, Vice Chairman, some former chairman of the area among others.
