“A good objective of leadership is to help those who are doing poorly to do well and to help those who are doing better to even do more.”-John Rhôn

On Friday, June 8, 2018, will remain indelible in the minds of Eket people for a long time to come. It was a day that the Member, Representing Eket State Constituency and the Deputy Chief Whip in the sixth Assembly in Akwa Ibom State, decided to say thank you to his people, through a constituency briefing and empowerment programme.

The first of its kind to ever hold in the State constituency, where 28 cars were distributed, generators, motorcycles, televisions, etc. Before the advent of the empowerment programme, 194 undergraduate students from Eket extraction were paid bursary assistance, and scholarship awarded to 12 undergraduate students with a cumulative grade point average of 4.0 and above, through the magnanimity of the Lawmaker, also the first of its kind.

It is interesting to note, that the Eket Lawmaker, despite treaties, refused to talk about his second term ambition, and had openly said, that politics should not be discussed at the venue of the exercise, a rare occurrence, like previously witnessed in other empowerments, where posters and billboards of would-be Aspirants would be flanged at the venue.

Like John Rhon posited that, good objective of leadership is to help those who are doing poorly to do well and to help those who are doing better to even do more, David Lawrence in the annals of history, has written his name in gold. He has been able to help those who are doing poorly to do well, through his live touching trainings which his constituents have benefited, which in turn, will impart and impact on the society.

Giving people the opportunity to acquire skills through learning, has proven to be one of the greatest empowerments for mankind. This, the Eket Lawmaker has done.

He has put paid to the agitations for a constituency briefing and empowerment, and left posterity to be the judge. The people of Eket can boldly say, Bravo! to a man who has redefined legislative governance and given leadership a face in the State Constituency.

A silent achiever, who has put the interest of his constituents above self. Memories of June 8, 2018, will linger for too long. When Leaders who have contributed to the development of Eket will be counted, David Lawrence will stand out as one who used his office to benefit mankind.

Speakers upon speakers poured encomiums on the Lawmaker at the epoch making event, describing his performance in the Assembly as superlative, with the advertising bill passed into law to his credit, and his co-sponsorships of others.

As the count down to the 2019 elections begin, power rest with the people. David Lawrence will once again throw his hat into the ring for a re-election into the State House, it is only wise, that performance should be considered above personal interest or parochial sentiments. A stitch in time they say, saves nine.
