Rival cults group kills 3 in Akwa Ibom

Two rival cult groups have killed three of its members in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom, according to source.
The source said that the cult clash was between the Vikings Confraternity and Black Axe due to unverified reasons that started at a brothel (Akwa Ibom Guest House) at Afaha Uqua on Sunday, June 10.
He said the two groups have been on each other’s neck for the past three months as a result of squabbles not unconnected with supremacy.
According to the source, one was killed at Liverpool road, another in Uqua village and the third one was killed at a sit out at Atai Ndon village in Eket Local Government.
“The present clash leading to the death of three started on Sunday, when a member of Vikings Confraternity unleashed terror on a member of the black axe with matchet cuts,” he said.
He said that two best friends of different Confraternity sat out at a brothel along Afaha Uqua road, when members of the Vikings came to hit its fellow members who is disloyal.
He said that the vikings member on sighting his brothers ran leaving behind his friend.
Then the Vikings descended on his friend which is a member of black axe who intervened because the Vikings member who ran away was is friend.
He said that the hit from the vikings lead to severe matchet cuts to the black axe Confraternity member in the area.
According to him, since then the two cults groups started fighting which led to the dead of three and several injured in the Eket local government area of Akwa Ibom.
Reacting to the issue, DSP MacDon Achebe, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed the incident, saying that police is on top of the situation.
“The police will not tolerate any act that will lead to breakdown of laws and order in the state.
“Akwa Ibom Police is calling all those who are directly or indirectly in the act of criminality to desist else, the full wrath of the law will be visited on perpetuators,’ Achebe said.
He noted that the laws proscribing of cultism and gangsterism is still in place, saying that it is the desire of the command that nobody should take laws into his or her hands.
The Police Boss called on the peace loving people of Eket to go about with their normal business as police has deployed personnel to contained the situation.
