A’Ibom School Produces National Winner of Stockholm Junior Water Prize Competition

Two students, Blessing Utibe Ukpong and Inieso Thursday Edward, both from Nothern Annang Secondary Commercial School, Utu Etim Ekpo in Etim Ekpo LGA of  A’Ibom State have emerged national winners of Stockholm junior water prize competition.


The competition, held in Abuja last week was the nigerian edition meant to select students with inate scientific ideas to represent the country in the international edition of the competition in Stockholme, Sweden.

Stockholm Junior water prize according to the organizers is aimed to gather imaginative young minds from all over the world, encouraging their continued interest in water and sustainability issues and draws more than 10,000 entries from over 30 countries in the world.


The competition which is segmented in stages; the zonal, national and international rounded up its national stage, producing the duo to represent the country in the international stage in Stockholm, Sweden in August 2018.

According to the jury, which included representatives from the Ministry of water resources, National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and Sweden, who disclosed the result, stated that the talented young boys used fiber from coconut to purify water.

They attributed the winning to quality education and comfortable academic ambiance provided by the government of Akwa Ibom state.

The duo is to represent Njgeria in Sweden and will be leaving on August 24
