In a bid to end diseases associated with open defecation and improve sanitary well-being of Commuters and neighbouring market people, Governor Udom Emmanuel has constructed an ultamodern toilet facilities at the popular Salantic Motor Park along Umuahia Road, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.
Our roaming reporter observed that the two separate toilet blocks constructed through the inter-ministerial direct labour coordinating committee, consist of four rooms with water cistern facilities and are clean and relaxing enough for a pressed passenger and the drivers to get succour.
Some commercial drivers and workers at the terminus expressed happiness over the facelift given to the park by the state government, saying the modern toilet blocks have solved their age long problem.
Ibanga Edet Essien, a worker who narrated the story of the park before the intervention, described it as an eyesore. He said workers and passengers had no place to pass their waste, and had to refer their female passengers elsewhere.
“This park was an eyesore every morning. People used to come here at night to defecate. Imagine coming to work and the first thing that welcomes you are heaps of sh*ts. That is what we were passing through for years “, Idiong said.
On his part, a Commercial driver, Ndifreke Okorie, who described the gesture as a welcome development thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for providing the state-of-the-arts facilities for use.
Imaobong Christopher, a worker at the facility thanked the Governor for creating jobs for a number of youths in the area, which she is one of the beneficiaries
Other people who spoke to our reporter, eulogized Governor Udom Emmanuel, who through the InterMinisterial Direct Labour coordinating Committee has turned things around for the park users.
The terminus is however opened to neigbouring market stalls owners who also find succour in making use of the facility.
