The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel has congratulated the Paramount Ruler of Mbo Local Government Area, HRM Ovong (Hon.) Edet Okon Isemin, on his traditional coronation and enthronement as the new Ahta Oro VII of the Oro nation, describing him as an exceptionally great leader and an epitome of peace.

Governor Udom who made these remarks today during the conferment ceremony of the new Ahta Oro VII at the Oro Civic Centre in Oron, noted that the new Ahta Oro, HRM Ovong (Hon.) Edet Okon Isemin follows the line of quintessential, urbane, cerebral and cosmopolitan monarchs that the Oro nation has always been blessed with.

Represented by his Deputy, Mr. Moses Ekpo, the Governor commended the Council of Oro Traditional Rulers for the peaceful and seamless process that led to the emergence of the new Ahta Oro.

Governor Udom disclosed that his Government has been enriched most profoundly by the contributions of the Oro Nation through his appointments of some great sons and daughters of the region into his Government, stressing that he could always count on their fecundity to help his Government push the State to another frontier of growth and development.

He remarked that His Royal Majesty, Edet Okon Isemin is a man with intimidating credentials -an accomplished civil servant, a consummate politician, and a widely travelled man.

“He is a dedicated and passionate community leader; a bridge builder across our State; a worker in the Vineyard of the Lord, and an inimitable family man”, he appraised.

According to the Governor, there is no doubt that the new Monarch will bring on board to bear in his new assignment those rich and varied experiences which the Oro nation in particular and the State in general will benefit from.

He prayed that his reign should ensure peace and concord which is the panacea for development as well as the promotion of the values of civic engagement for which the proud Oro people are known for.

Governor Udom noted the significance of the traditional institution to his Government, stressing that his administration places huge premium in the partnership he has developed with the traditional institution.

He remarked that the traditional rulers are the pulse and arteries of the grassroots, and are responsible for the peaceful resolution of conflicts at the local level, reiterating that his administration will continue to engage this critical sector of governance to ensure that peace and a sense of order exist at that level of governance.

The State’s Chief Executive assured that his administration will continue to provide the necessary enablements for the traditional rulers in the State to perform their functions with dignity, pride, and fulfilment.

In his acceptance speech, HRM Ahta (Hon.) Edet Okon Isemin, the Ahta Oro VII, appreciated God, the Government, and his people for finding him worthy for the coronation and enthronement, assuring that he will do his utmost to provide effective leadership for the peace, unity, and progress of all sections of the Oro ethnic nationality.

“I shall protect the prestige, good name, and sanctity of the Ahta Oro Throne and the Institution of the Council of Oro Traditional Rulers. I promise to never to betray the confidence reposed in me by this selection”, he pledged.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Sir Amb. Etim Uye, disclosed that Oro people formally instituted the Royal Patriarchy as the single traditional symbol of Oro since 1975, in response to the changing times in the Political and Traditional governance of the people.

The formal coronation and enthronement of HRM Ovong (Hon.) Edet Okon Isemin was followed by the next high point where the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Deacon Udom Emmanuel, was conferred and honoured with the traditional title of ” Ubeai-adai” by the Ahta Oro in Council.

The coronation and enthronement ceremony of the new Ahta Oro VII was witnessed by a crowd of Oro sons and daughters, dignitaries from Government, political, academic, and traditional sectors within and across the State, as well as a great deal of admirers and well wishers.
