NISafetyE Set to Partner LG’s in Akwa Ibom for Youth Empowerment

The Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (NISafetyE), Akwa Ibom State Chapter have concluded plans to partner local governments in the state to empower the youths in other to meet manpower requirements in various oil and gas servicing companies.

The empowerment meant to bridge the technical gap in job opening requirements, will be in form of safety training and certifications to enable the youths become more marketable and employable in the oil sector.

Unveiling the proposed scheme during a courtesy call to the Ibeno Local Government Chairman, Mr. Ifum Henry Udoh by the State Chairman of NISafetyE, Engr Akaniyene Ekong and his team during the weekend, he noted that there is a huge gap in our manpower in the state.

Engr. Ekong emphasized that there are lots of job opportunities in area that outsiders are brought in to occupy, due to the fact that our youths are not technically qualified to perform such functions as required by specifications.

The NISafetyE Chairman further stated that the different aspects of safety training and certification will include, Industrial HSE level 1,2,3, Fire Watch, Authorized Gas Testing, Construction safety, Marine safety and Water Survival.

He said that NISafetyE has the technical input framework, to ensure regulation, enforcement and compliance monitoring for public safety and is willing to partner the AKHA in setting up Akwa Ibom State Safety Commission on the passage of the bill.

Speaking with iReporters, the Ibeno local government chairman, Hon. Ifum confirmed that it is a welcome development.

He stated that in other to create job opportunities, the youths must be empowered with technical knowledge in different aspect of safety.

Hon. Ifum said he will partner the organization to train youths from his local government so that when there are job openings, they can fit into the requirements.

He urged other local governments to join in this call for empowerment as the benefits to the youths are enormous.
