Akwa Ibom State Government has reiterated reasons why it will not accept projects done by Niger Delta Development Commission in the state.
The Commissioner for works, Akparawa Ephraim Inyang-Eyen made this known to newsmen during a routine inspection of Youth Avenue Road, a project undertaken by the Governor Udom Emmanuel.

Inyang-Eyen said the Government was ever ready to partner the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to enhance the infrastructural development of the state.

He said the state will however not accept road projects by NDDC which do not have side drainages and road furniture because of the durability of such projects.

Hear him “As an interventionists agency of the federal government, the state government highly appreciates its presence in the state, but will only accept quality service delivery to the good people of Akwa Ibom State. The government will not accept roads constructed in the state without side drainages and road furniture because such projects will not survive the raining season.”

He further said that the face-off between the state government and the management of Niger Delta Development Commission over the construction of the Youth Avenue has been laid to rest as the NDDC contractor did not have the road drawing for construction.

“I didn’t chase away construction workers from NDDC as alleged, I only demanded the drawing of the road project from the initial contractor sent by the agency which they could not provide and we ask them to stop work. Before then, during a thanksgiving service in the area, the governor had directed my ministry to immediately intervene on the road.”
