INFORMATION BOSS RECEIVES AKWA UNITED, COMMENDS GOV EMMANUEL

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information Mr Charles Udoh has commended the Governor Udom Emmanuel for his dedication in transforming the Akwa United FC to national champions.
The Commissioner who led hundreds of supporters to receive the winners of 2017 Aiteo Cup Akwa United FC at the Ibom International Airport, commended the team for their resilience and commitment which also contributed to their victory.

He said the Godly and focused leadership qualities of the state Governor has led Akwa Ibom into a new record attaining feat in the 2017 maiden edition of the Aiteo Cup.

“It is unprecedented in the history of Nigerian Football that one State would produce two finalists in the male and female tournament in Nigeria, Akwa Ibom State has done that”.

He attributed the victory of the Akwa United to the passion and dedication of Governor Udom Emmanuel who has kept to his words in transforming the team.

“This victory is about the good people of Akwa Ibom State, this victory is about the passion, the dedication of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency Udom Emmanuel who has continuously said when the passion is right everything is possible”
“Remember that Akwa United before now had been a relegation struggler and when his Excellency came on board he clearly made it a point to transform the team from a relegation struggler to a Championship winning team and he has done that, this is the second time in less than three years that Akwa United has emerged Champion of the Nigerian FA Cup”.
Mr. Udoh stated that Akwa Ibom State being the only state in the world named after God “Akwa Abasi Ibom” believed in God for their victory, explaining that “God Plus hard work, plus dedication, plus passion, plus integrity, and sustainable governance have seen us achieve this victory today”.
When asked about the measures taken to ensure a non repetition of 2015 competition where the team qualified but did not go far, the commissioner assured that the team was ready to take over Africa, having learnt from the mistakes.
“I think lesson were learnt, and those mistakes would not happen again, today you can attest to the fact that we have a better team than what we had then, today you can attest to the fact that Akwa United plays probably the best brand of football in Nigeria, you can attest to the fact that probably Akwa United has the largest number of home based teams in the national team, that is to show that we have a team ready to take over Africa”.
He however encouraged the Ibom Angels for their final match saying that with God on their side Victory is certain.
Speaking with the Assistant Coach AbasiAkan Wendy he expressed excitement saying “I am too happy that after being part of the 2015 victory, I am again privilege to make it to the finals, not only make it to the finals but winning the cup for the second time”
He extolled the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel for investing heavily financially and morally into the team, and noted that it was in the spirit of the Dakkada philosophy that the team rose to the faith of greatness to win.
Recounting their experiences members of the team who had swept all the individual awards in the tournament thanked Governor Emmanuel for being a caring leader.
They included the team captain Otobong Effiong, Goalkeeper Olorunleke Ojo who was adjudged the safest hands and most Valuable Player of the tournament, and Christian Pyagbara the highest goal scorer.
According to Olorunleke Ojo, “I knew there was no how they would play the five penalty that I would not save one, penalty is even one of my assets so I was never disturbed, I was confident in myself that I am going to do it”
He thanked God and his fans that supported him, urging them to be expectant as he won’t just stop there but go further to make them proud.

Christian Pyagbara, the highest goal scorer was pleasantly surprised at his achievement revealing that he never expected that he would emerge as the highest goal scorer.
He said all he did was put in his best efforts to ensure that he kept scoring, adding that Akwa United is a good team that believes in unity, and will continue to push harder to make the people proud.
The captain Otobong Effiong thanked the Governor of Akwa Ibom State and the people for their support throughout the season.

“I feel very great for being the captain of Akwa United, and lifting this trophy for the second time; our success today is about our determination and the support of the Governor and the entire Akwa Ibom State”.
