In furtherance of his resolve for a complete overhaul of secondary health care system in the state, Governor Udom Emmanuel has commenced complete rehabilitation and equipping of the dilapidated General Hospital Ikono to give it a face lift and new lease of life. Already the roofing sheets are being removed for replacement while dilapidated facilities are packed out for replacement with new facilities which have been procured by the state government.
It could be recalled that some of the 100 containers of medical equipment procured by the state government for hospitals in the state have been delivered.
With commencement of rehabilitation work at the General hospital in Ikono, the people of the area have come out to celebrate Governor Emmanuel, who they say, “is thinking well” not only for the hospital but for the entire people of the area.
Need it be mentioned here that, the general hospital, Ikono, established in 1991had remained in a state of disrepair, desolation and abandonment for years now, until today, when the government flagged-off the rehabilitation of the hospital. Working in partnership with PIN Consult, the hospital will not only be reconstructed but will be made to provide comprehensive services expected of a general hospital. At the moment, the hospital is working at less than 10% capacity but on completion of rehabilitation the hospital will provide consultancy services in partner with medical outfits in Europe and Asia
