Youths of ONNA Local Government under the aegis of “Forum of Youth Presidents” says that for the Council to experience newness that would go in tandem with the Dakkaada initiative of the present administration, there must be an injection of freshness into the political system by allowing the youths (who are the grassroots), be the decider of who to lead the local government as Chairman.

This was made known on Tuesday during a consultation visit to the forum by a chairmanship aspirant, Comrade Samuel Umoffia (Sammydave).

The forum of Youth Presidents, emphasized that it was high time stakeholders liaise with the youths in decision and leadership choice making, to strengthen the tie between the grassroots and the local government’s leadership, and also to aid make the right choice for any leadership position.

Speaking at the event, the Coordinator of the forum, Mr. Ubong Ekefre, stated that it is time to define the future for the ONNA generations unborn, by introducing intellectual capacity and humanitarian activist to lead the Local government as Chairman.

Ekefre who hails from the Governors ward, stressed that seeing the pace of development by His Excellency, the local government needs someone that is connected to modernity, civility with an unquestioned developmental prowess to fill in the gap.

He called for an audience with His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, so as to allow the youth Presidents ample opportunity to discuss vital issues that are detrimental to the growth of the Local Government as well as the upcoming council elections.

They urged the aspirant to pursue his Chairmanship aspiration with vigor, consult far and wide to gain more support from the masses, while they prayed God to see him successfully through his aspiration.

The aspirant, Comrade Samuel Umoffia (Sammydave) who happens to be the Chairman, ONNA Youth Council, and hails from Mkpok Village (NUNG NDEM WARD), where the chairmanship position is zoned to, expressed joy for the warm reception accorded him by the forum of youth presidents.

Umoffia stated that he decided to begin his Chairmanship aspiration’s consultation with the forum because he is a product of the stock, and the stock is the eye of the grassroots.

The ONNA youth council president said coming into the race is with one agenda “Raising a generation of skillful ONNA people to achieve life’s independency”

Comrade Umoffia said coming from the oil and gas sector, he has seen that there are many openings in the oil and gas sector that needs some certain skills and certifications, which ONNA people are always left out.

“I am not coming to build roads or build industries. I am coming to ONNA with a focus in skills development to suit the demands of the oil and gas sector”

“There are so many specialized areas with job openings in the oil and gas sector, where none of our brothers and sisters is enlisted, why? Because none of them are qualified to work there”

“These certifications are obtainable at the Maritime Academy, Petroleum Training Institute, etc. and could be funded by the local government”- he said.

Umoffia said it will be a blessing if the youths can rise to ensure that the mandate to serve the people as Chairman is retained amongst them.

Those in attendance where, the Youth Caucus Chairman, Comr. Ubong Inokon, all village youths president in ONNA L.G.A and others.
