- Judgment elicits hope for victory in 2019 – Eket PDP Chair
- Judgement dwarfs opposition party – Former Minister
- Judgement spells victory for party in all future elections – ALGON Chairman/ Eket TC
Bask in the euphoria of Makarfi’s faction Supreme Court victory, the Eket Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) joined the National and State chapter of the party to celebrate the Supreme Court verdict recognizing the Markarfi’s faction as the authentic Exco.
The unannounced occasion which was held in the chapter secretariat of the party along Eket-Oron road, received an unprecedented crowd of stakeholders, members and supporters, causing traffic-jam and uneasy road access for passersby.
Speaking at the occasion, the Eket Chapter Chairman of the PDP, Obong Iwaad Emman Mbong said that Makarfi’s victory at the Supreme Court is a supreme judgment for the supreme people of Nigeria.
He noted that the party had been pregnant for a period of time, struggling through one of the hardest times as a political party since formed, but the judgment is a call for every aggrieved party member to mimic the peaceful reunion and work towards achieving success in 2019.
Also speaking at the occasion, a former minister/ two times Federal Legislator, Chief Ndueso Essien, whose joy knew no bound said the party’s success story, began last week. He pinpointed that since last week everything about the party was victorious.
“On Saturday, PDP won Senatorial bye-election in APC stronghold. Monday, PDP came out en-mass to celebrate the Governor, the sea of heads dwarfed the opposition party and they disappeared; same Monday, El-Rufai was booed by his people; meaning the people have rejected him and have reviewed their support. On Wednesday, in the Niger Delta stakeholders meeting in Bayelsa State, we were confident of victory in the Supreme Court and it has manifested today” – he added.
Chief Essien reaffirmed that there is no APC in Akwa Ibom.
Eket TC, Hon. Frank Archibong said it is the party’s re-birth after a long time of trial that has slowed the pace of work in the party.
The Algon Chairman also said that the judgement is a clear statement that Akwa Ibom belongs to PDP, and every vote in Akwa Ibom belongs to Udom Emmanuel in 2019.
While fielding questions from Pressmen, the ALGON Chairman said Akwa Ibom supported Makarfi’s led exco because of the pedigree and leadership capacity vested in the former senator.
He said the party will be more formidable than it was before, due to the fact that they have tasted one of the roughest times in the history of the party.
Archibong also debunked rumour that he collected 45million naira from the state government as speculated in some quarters for the construction of Urua Offiong etuk, stating that the local government collected compensation for some stores in the market from the ministry to the tune 15M naira.
He said that efforts of constructing the market are underway as the local government had procured materials for the construction of the market, materials for the construction of solar borehole (and the materials are still on ground), but there is a logjam with the community as there are divergent views on where the market should be sited.
“We are running a government and a very transparent government. In every government no matter how you try, there must always be some level of rumours.”
“When a part of the market was demolished, we collected compensation for some stores from the ministry to the tune of 15M Naira. Effort of building the market is underway”
“Firstly we procured materials for the construction of the market, procured materials for solar borehole, but we are having a logjam with the community because of divergent interest on whose community the market should be relocated to, but as a government, we will take decisions that might not favour some people for development’s sake”- Frank added.
The Algon Chairman also talked about how the local government has put up machinery’s to check the entrance of adulterated petroleum product into the LGA.
Frank reacted on the basis that he marked the 51st birthday of His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel in the hospital with patients, when he met a family of three girls who were badly burnt in a kerosene explosion last week in Ikot Udoma axis of the LGA. He said he had reported to the appropriate quarters including the Petroleum Task Force Chairman and that he has swing into action, first discovering the filling station that brought in inferior product.
He called on the relevant regulatory bodies to sacrifice greed on the altar of service to humanity and work assiduously to curb this menace of adulterated product explosion in the state and country at large.
He donated to the victim’s hospital and welfare bills, urging the hospital authority to ensure proper treatment so they can be discharged immediately.
