Malabu $1.1 bn oil deal: FG slams fresh charges against Adoke, Etete, others



Troubles of the im­mediate past At­torney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mo­hammed Adoke are yet to be over as the Federal Government on Thurs­day slammed a fresh criminal charge against him. Also charged is the former Minister of Pe­troleum, Dan Etete and nine others before an Abuja High Court over alleged role in the $1.1 billion Malabu oil deal.
It would be recalled that the Federal govern­ment had recently filed a criminal charge against Adoke and Etete at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
However, in the fresh suit, the government named: Shell Nigeria Exploration production Company Ltd, Nigeria Agip Exploration Lim­ited, Aliyu Abubakar, ENI SPA, Ralph Wetzels, Casula Roberto, Pujatti Stefeno, Burrafati Sebe­stiano and Malabu Oil and Gas.
In the fresh charge marked CR/124/17, signed by FG’s prosecu­tion lawyer, Mr. Johnson Ojogbane, the defen­dants fingered for con­spiracy contrary to Sec­tion 26 of the Corrupt Practices and other Re­lated Offences Act, 2000 and punishable under Section 12 of the same Act.
In the particulars of offence the defendants were alleged to have sometime 2011 in Abuja conspired among them­selves to commit a felony to wit official corruption and thereby commuted an offence
In count two, the de­fendants were accused of official corruption con­trary to Section 9 of the Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Act, 2000 and punishable under Section 9(b) of the same Act.
In the particulars of offence, the defendants were accused to have in 2011 corruptly received the aggregate sum of 801 million dollars in rela­tion to the grant of Oil Prospecting Licence on respect of the OPL 245 from Shell Nigeria
