Edet Edet – Eket.
A former minister, National lawmaker and chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, Chief Ndueso Essien has extolled the pragmatic strides of Governor Udom Emmanuel geared towards the delivery of his campaign promises to Akwa Ibom people, eighteen Months into his administration, saying his achievements has proven him capable to continue.
Essien made this assertion in his country home at Ikot Ibiok, Eket L.G.A, Akwa Ibom state during a courtesy call on him by the National Executive Council of Eket Senatorial District Youth Assembly, the apex socio-political youth group in Eket Senatorial District.
The courtesy call which was meant to address salient issues affecting the youths of the Senatorial District, with an aim to mitigate in other to foster growth amongst the youths and reduced youth’s restiveness in the area.
Among the issues bothering the youths of the senatorial district as presented by the youth group for discussion were:
1. Marginalization of the group in terms of appointments, after its insertions and assiduous fight during the elections.
2. Agitation for the Presidency of Akwa Ibom Youth Council.
3. The establishment of Akwa Ibom Oil Producing Communities Development Commission.
Responding to the issues, Chief Ndueso Essien said, it is always very difficult for government to satisfy everybody at the same time, and was notably that it is not only our group that feels marginalized, but so many, he pleaded that the group should be patience with the Governor as next time will be their turn.
The PDP Chieftain went further to state that since evidence proves that the office of the President, Akwa Ibom Youth Council is always occupied by the Senatorial District where the Governor comes from, it was pertinent that the Presidency should come to Eket Senatorial District. He therefore adopted the endorsed President of Onna Youth Council, Comrade Daniel Nwa to succeed the incumbent Comrade Ese Umoh. He stressed that with the qualities and sterling credentials of Comr. Nwa, he has no doubt in his capability to pilot the affairs of the State Youth Council.
Essien continued by saying that many groups and persons are restless in the call for the establishment of Akwa Ibom Oil Producing Communities Development Commission since the Attah’s administration. He reiterated that the reason it was not achieved then, was because the Governor’s since 2003-2015 were not from Eket Senatorial District, so none of them assented to the establishment of the commission, knowing that it will take a chunk from the derivatives. He said that the agitation should continue as he is optimistic that since the Governor is from Eket Senatorial District, it will be realized.
Chief Essien went further to stress that the East –West Road is the worst project ever carried out by the federal government. He noted that the road was meant to be a dual carriage, but the contractors came up with a deceitful plan to convert the dual carriageway to a single lane, on the pretext that there were many houses to be demolished and compensation paid, so they were to make provisions for a single lane and build a by-pass. Essien retell the federal government to come to the rescue of the road as there was no document proving the road was single lane. And that there is no more provisions for it again after this year in the budget.
In his closing remark, the elder statesman while narrating the achievements recorded so far by Udom Emmanuel expressed strong confidence reaffirming his support and prayers for governor Udom Emmanuel. He posited that for Akwa Ibom State to be the only state to have a pencil producing factory in the whole of Nigeria symbolizes leadership of “courage, focus and fulfilment” notwithstanding our dwindling state of economy. Chief Ndueso took time to encouraged the leadership of Eket Senatorial District Youth Assembly on their persistency, resiliency and commitment promoting government policies and programs which will in turn aid in building the youths for a greater future
