The Appeal Court Verdict: Our Position- Akwa Ibom PDP

PRESS RELEASE
The Appeal Court Verdict: Our Position

Earlier today, the Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt gave judgment on a pending Appeal before her bothering on the National Leadership of our great Party- the Peoples Democratic Party. The judgment of any court remains the mindset and interpretation of that Court on any given subject matter and the Court of Appeal,Port Harcourt exhibited that mindset in an majority (1 dissenting) judgment.

As a state chapter of the Party, we align with the position of the National Publicity Secretary,Mr Adeyeye in his notification of the party’s intention to further climb the ladder of appellate adjudication to access the hallowed sphere of the Supreme Court, to enquire their interpretation on the issues raised in the Appeal. It must be noted that we are seriously concerned at the manifest disparity existing between this judgment of the Court of Appeal,Port Harcourt and that of the Supreme Court in Eyitayo Jegede’s case.

However, having passed through this rough and torturous legal huddle before during the governorship election petition trials, we can only remind everyone of the time tested adage that he who laughs last, laughs best. We trust that the wheels of justice will deliver to us remedy for all the aberrations unduly earned.

The State Chairman of our Party, Obong Paul Ekpo who doubles as the Chairman, forum of State Chairmen of PDP urges all party faithful to remain resolute and continue in their love and support for the party and the Government of Akwa Ibom State, conscious that this is a phase that will soon pass.
