2019 and the APC’s Permutation for Akwa Ibom State

Joe Mfoniso, Uyo

It is obvious from the trending event in the Akwa Ibom political scene, that the All Progressive Congress (APC) is ready to actualize their conceived permutations of rendering the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as minority come 2019. This is convincingly concealed in the recent nomination of Obong Nsima Ekere, an abstract of Ikot Abasi in Eket Senatorial District as MD, NDDC, and Mr. Samuel Frank of Awa clan (where His Excellency hails from) as the state representative in the NDDC.
From perceived calculations, it could be believed that Obong Nsima Ekere who contested and lost the scuttled and hijacked 2015 gubernatorial election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, may be empowered in preparation to challenge the incumbent Mr. Udom Emmanuel in the 2019 gubernatorial election or giving the political strength to create a division in the support base of the incumbent.
During the build-up to the 2015 election, Mr. Udom Emmanuel who rod on the back of his predecessor, Godswill Akpabio made so many promises to the electorates ranging from, industrialization, empowerment etc. but today, the electorates frowns at the trending increase of abuse of offices, marginalization and oppression by those who made promises to them. They decry lack of governmental soupçon traceable to the inherent ideology by Mr. Udom Emmanuel tagged “Dakkada creed”, ascertained by many to be an impoverishing notion tactics to cripple those who believed so much in Godswill Akpabio to had voted for Udom.
The negligence of the campaign promises is the reason Nsima Ekere’s emergence will alienate the electorates from the incumbent. Bringing Samuel Frank, an ally of the APC struggle is the real script Governor Emmanuel has to re-read to decipher the embedded. The people of Awa clan have felt little or no impact from his governance. Samuel frank is brought to identify the marginalized and the unhappy in Onna L. G. A., devise means to mitigate them; either by direct empowerment, contracts etc. what the Governor and his Lagos cronies are unable to do because of greed and selfishness. In doing this, the interest of the electorates from his home front will be divided, thereby creating conflict of choice in the region during elections.
Governor Udom and his Lagos returnees to me are satisfied with one tenure, that is why they are busy building edifices with government funds, awarding contracts to their companies, buying lands in preparation of building universities, doing Environmental Impact Assessment with their family company, supplying diesel to government facilities alone, demolishing people’s houses and paying compensation for just structures and not the land; claiming the land belongs to the government, Leaving the masses to wallow in abject poverty with the willingness to give them bait prior to the election, a feat acknowledged and kept salient awaiting that time for a rejection.
The electorates are hungry, yet Udom claims ignorance of the fact. Crime rate is in the crescendo, young girls are plunging into prostitution, Nsima Ekere knows the truth about the government’s negligence. He understands the language of politics.
Ignoring Obong Nsima Ekere’s emergence as NDDC MD will be the highest level of myopia by the PDP led government in the state, because soonest, they will see themselves alone at the time they think the bait will lure the electorates again. It is better now, than never.
