The people of Eket Local Government Area have pledged to give utmost degree of cooperation and support to State government in the completion of the ongoing Eket remodelling and other projects in their domain.

They gave the assurance at a town hall meeting which was attended by stakeholders and elders held Monday, at the palace of the Paramount Ruler, Eket Local Government Area, HRM Edidem Etim Charles Abia.

The royal father who explained that Eket remodelling and other road projects embarked upon by the Udom Emmanuel administration were important to the area because it would improve trade and commerce for economic prosperity, promised not to shirk his responsibility of maintaining absolute peace in the area.

Other Stakeholders, including Senator Helen Esuene, former Minister of Lands and Housing, Chief Nduese Essien, Former House member, Hon Ayang Akanimo Ayang an elder statesman; Mr Jack Etteh among others equally praised the governor for his inclusive leadership. They noted that the governor was consistent in carrying out his activities and humble too in serving Akwa Ibomites.

Senator Esuene specifically eulogized the State Chief Executive for the ongoing construction of Yiwu International Market in the area, submitting that the project would provide employment opportunities for over 10,000 youths and women in the area, as well as improve the living standard of the people of the host community.

The Senator opined that people must continue to pray for government, especially a government that has done well, like the Udom Emmanuel administration.

The meeting which featured question and answer session provided an opportunity for the State Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim Inyang-Eyen, to bring the people up-to-speed with the progress of road projects in the area.

Speaking extensively on the Eket remodelling and beautification project, the Works boss divulged that the governor has ordered that the project be completed within six months.

Explaining why the project was moving in a slow pace, Inyang-Eyen hinted, “when you construct a massive underground drainage like the one we have in Eket, you don’t rush else it won’t last”, explaining further that, ” there is no part of the State that has the quality of drainage system like the one in Eket”, assuring that the city will not experience flooding again once the project is completed six months from now.

The Commissioner frowned at the attitude of some property owners who would receive adequate compensation, use part of the money to get court injunction, thereby causing the project to move more slowly.

He explained that Governor Emmanuel has changed the mode of compensation payment such that people find it difficult to manipulate the process and figures as it used to be prior to the current administration, one of the reasons he said has angered some people.

According to the Works boss, “the real property owners in Akwa Ibom are getting maximum value of their property. So, If you take government money, please surrender same property to be demolished in other to give way for construction to be done as designed by government because Governor Udom Emmanuel is coming to take delivery of first phase of Eket remodeling within the next six months”.

Meanwhile the Paramount Ruler and the people of Eket have unanimously passed a resolution on their stand on the development, which is welcomed. They appreciated the transparency in the process of compensation for property on government right of way as well as Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration for approving and embarking on the construction a good number of roads in their domain and pledged their support and cooperation beyond 2023.

Among the stakeholders who attended the town hall meeting was the former Senator Hellen Esuene, former Minister of Lands and Housing, Chief Nduese Essien, Chief, other dignitaries, youth and women leaders from the oil rich city.
