- Says he has negated party principles for selfish pursuit.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in ONNA LGA, Awa ward 111 has suspended its ward chairman, Mr. Ekerete Rufus Timothy pending his exoneration by the disciplinary committee, over issues bordering on the neglect of party ethics, lack of transparency in the running of party affairs and his exhibition of unruly behaviour that is creating disunity and promoting the party’s balkanization at the ward level.
This is contained in the letter of “No Confidence” dated August 14th, 2017, addressed to the ONNA Chapter Chairman of the party, signed by fifteen (15) out of the seventeen (17) member ward Executives and made available to this medium.
The Executive committee members, in the letter stated that the ward chairman, Mr. Ekerete Rufus has become so combative with other members of the ward executive to the extent that they have lost all the ingredients for a good working relationship with him.
Stating categorically, the executives pointed out that Mr. Rufus as ward chairman of Awa ward 111 has mimicked the gladiatorial style of leadership, thereby rendering every other offices that is supposed to work in series with his office to promote growth, foster party’s successes unconstitutionally dysfunctional.
“He has refused to assign functions nor allow officers function in their office for reasons that are parochial and petty, thus causing deep seated wounds in the minds of co-officers and members”
“He has promoted disunity and discord by talking down everyone at meetings, constantly informing members of the powers conferred on him by the party’s constitution as chapter chairman. There is no doubt that he was elected chairman with the hope that his style will be tempered by the office but unfortunately he has absolutely no respect for members of the executives and members at large” – the letter reads in part.
The letter also exposes that there is wide spread rumour that the chapter chairman, Mr. Rufus alongside his allies, Evang. Ben Inyangetuk and Ekerete Jacob have procreated strategy to clandestinely extort money from aspirants with an impression of skewing the election in their favour, using the chapter chairman’s name to perfect the scheme.
The Executives are of strong conviction that having known the ward Chairman, Mr Ekerete to be a strong ally of a one-time party member, Mr. Gabriel Ekong, who defected to the APC, and whose back Mr. Ekerete rode to the ward Chairmanship position, he is acting a script to disrupt the smooth operations of the party for the benefit of his benefactor (Gabriel Ekong).
They called on the Chapter Chairman to setup a disciplinary committee as enshrined in the party’s constitution section 57 (1) to ascertain the veracity of their claims punishable under section 58 (1) (h,j) respectively.
