In his commitment towards ensuring adequate power supply as a major catalyst of the industrialisation drive of his administration, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, on Tuesday, 27th July, 2016, performed the groundbreaking ceremony for a 2x60KVA transmission power substation in Ekim, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of the state.
The power sub-station lying on a large land mass of 3.11 acres with secured perimeter fencing will accommodate two 132x33KVA transmitters. Already, the first transmitter has been put in place and set to commence power transmission.
The Ekim power sub-station is to feed 5 local government areas: Mkpat Enin, ONNA, Ikot Abasi, Eastern Obolo and Oruk Anam.
The power station is also strategically located to service Akwa Ibom State University, the Syringe and Metering factories as well as the Coconut Refinery, loading in the state.
With the power station fully in operation, the people living within the vicinity and its environs will not only benefit from constant power supply, but also the numerous value chain opportunities derivable from adequate power supply.
