- Accuses Paul Ekpo of creating discontent in the Party.
- There is no disagreement in the party –Ini Ememobong
All seems not to be well in the inside of the Peoples Democratic Party, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, following the faceoff between some state party executives and the state Chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo.
The faceoff according to some Exco members, who confided with this reporter on the condition of anonymity, claimed that it is as a result of the undemocratic actions and despotic style of leadership displayed by the Chairman in decision making for the party in time recent.
The source further stated that the State Chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo convened stakeholders meeting of the party without due consultations of critical stakeholders and Local government representatives in the state executive.
They alleged that Obong Paul Ekpo connived with Enobong Uwah, Chairman, UCCDA, formulated local government coordinators for the upcoming November 11 local government elections across the entire state, of which they believe should have been discussed and agreed by party Executives representing Local Governments before the announcement.
From the aggrieved point of view, it is noted that the Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State is one big family threatening the existence of any other party including the major opposition party (APC), stating that the State Chairman is neglecting the fundamental factor that guarantees success in any election, which is the party’s unity, and pursuing a selfish interest capable of balkanizing the party before the elections.
They called on the State Chairman to instill an all-inclusive leadership style as preached by His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, and also urged him to drop every selfish interest for the success of the party in the upcoming local government elections, noting that it is only a transparent primary that will give birth to a successful election outcome.
Although members of the state Executives are afraid to go to the media to state their grievances, believing they might either lose their seat or favour from the party chieftain, who is seen to have dominated the party, allowing little or no input from other exco members.
Responding to the allegations, the State PDP publicity secretary, Comr. Ini Ememobong in a telephone chat with this reporter said he wasn’t aware of any conflict in the party.
He stated further that he doesn’t see any reason why an aggrieved Exco member should be hiding under the shield to be talking to journalist.
“This is premeditated and self-determined conflict. Some people just believe in premeditating non-existing issues with the hope of making it real, forgetting that PDP in Akwa Ibom is one indivisible family”
“There is no stakeholders meeting or party decision making that critical stakeholders and party Exco’s are not consulted, so anybody hiding under the condition of anonymity to talk to you should be bold enough to unmask himself. As far as I am concern, PDP in Akwa Ibom is doing great under the able leadership of Obong Paul Ekpo” – he concluded.
