Edet Edet, Eket.
In an agitation to aid substantiate the promises of the Udom’s administration and tendering unalloyed support to the “Dakkada” ideology, geared towards building a bedrock for posterity to thrive in all the spheres of the economy, a non-profitable/ governmental organization under the auspices of Akwa Ibom Movement for Sustainable Development (AKMSD) led by Prof. Enen Ukeme, has called on Governor Emmanuel to infuse selfless politicians into his Executive council to abet actualize his divine blueprint for Akwa Ibom before the expiration of his first term in office.
Prof. Enen made this call during the 2016 annual meeting of AKMSD held at Belajno hotel on Saturday. The event which is organized yearly to grant members’ contributive opportunity towards the growth of the organization, state and country at large brought members from the Diaspora and all the states in the federation.
In his remarks, the Professor of Economics extolled the Governor for his investment plan targeted at giving the state financial independence and industrial habitation, noting that financial independence and industrial habitation can only be actualized if a formidable selfless team in the same pace of thought with that of the Governor is in place. He however stated that the Governor has within a span of time proven critics wrong by inserting his financial expertise into transmogrifying the face of Akwa Ibom he met to an heaven he will exit from come 2023, and that the people are convinced he will leave behind a developmental memorabilia for posterity to emulate.
Further to his submissions, Enen stressed that assumed technocrats find it very difficult to feel the pulses of the masses, sending negative signal to the peace loving people of the state, who overwhelmingly supported the Governor to his victory, and that it is only selfless politicians with grassroots affiliation that can produce proactive steps to meet set targets.
To buttress his point, he said that Governor Emmanuel should not rigmarole in search of politicians with virtues that can guarantee his success as they are with him already. “Take a look at those that are close to the government with no official cadre, the likes of Barr. Akpadiaha Ebitu from Eket, Bernard Duncan from Onna, Patrick Ifon from Onna, Rex Ulaeto, Ekpenyong Akpaette and even Barr. Bassey Dan Abia Jnr. This are politicians that have in time touched lives in their respective priviledges and their blood lineage is that of the grassroots, they would be better in the Executive council as they are imbued with the technical, managerial and humanitarian expertise sure of delivering set goals to mitigate life challenges ” – he said.
He reiterated that he is not suggesting for the Governor as he is optimistic that the Governor’s political prowess and sense of humor is commendable, but he is saying that for the government to succeed, the distinction of those called to serve is the driving tool and should not be compromised. “When you have the right team in your organization or administration; people who render selfless service, the level of achievement will shock you” – he added
It could be recalled that few weeks ago a former House of representative member and a Commissioner in the Judiciary service commission, Barr. Bassey Dan Abia Jnr. On planet 101fm had advised the Governor to do away with technocrat in his reconstitution of Executive council if he intends to achieve his visions of industrialization and development. The House member told the Governor that he has technocrats in permanent secretaries already in different ministries, that their technocratic prowess should be merged with political expertise to substantiate the promise made to Akwa Ibom people.
This call by AKMSD supports the earlier belief of the ex-representative that those who feel the pulse of the people are grassroots politicians and they alone should be solely saddled with ministries responsibility, in other to bridge the gap between the government and the people.
The secretary of the organization Mr. Akpan Akpan in a reaffirmation to the notion created by his President said that there are core selfless politicians known from their political antecedents that the Governor should introduce into his corridor of power. “I have seen the Governors pace setting in his developmental drive, he has a touch of class traceable to his lengthy years of experience in the banking sector, but he compromises when it comes to bringing the right men at the right job. There are men very close to him who happen to share his ideology, but he isn’t using them” – he said. He urged the Governor to give more seeable developmental proves to boost his achievements even in the face of recession.
AKMSD unanimously agreed that Governor Udom be supported through thick and thin to complete his eight years tenure as enshrined in the political archives of zoning in the state.
