Emmanuel Usenobong, Onna

From the words of Vince Lombardi that state thus “The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavour” – it is convincing that for electioneering promises and projections to be brought to fruition, the distinction of those called to service will be a deciding factor. To put it simply and sparkly, any administration that doesn’t get the choosing process right, will never fulfill the potential of that administration. Methinks that a robust Exco selection process does three things; provides a framework for identifying and developing priorities – at all levels and of all kinds. Evaluates the masses pangs, feel their pulses in-depth with a proactive mitigation strategy and fills the leadership gap, bridging the administration with the masses.
Going from an executing perspective, for any administration to gain excellence, it must make the selection process a priority and should be credibly considered above all affiliations and biases. I am not subjecting Governor Udom’s choice of Exco to scrutiny for an antagonistic act of domination and democratic barbarism perpetuated by a subject in his government, but bringing to the fore the anomalies, breach of oath of office and the gladiatorial style of leadership exhibited by one of his cronies. For far too long I’ve failed to recognize the pains of my people. I have ignored my own powers with the pen. Conveniently hiding under the position of political compromise; and for what? Protecting the integrity of my people in the government, at the detriment of the masses wellbeing; thereby helping the likes of the subject, to forge the same change that is supposed to bind us.

I will prefer to be lucid in my analysis that begets this piece, which has consistently, subjected this administration that is led by a professional in politics Mr. Udom Emmanuel to series of disagreeing beliefs by the electorates, resulting from the reprehensible actions from a supposed public office holder and kitchen cabinet member of Mr. Udom Emmanuel in the person of AKPARAWA EPHRAIM INYANGEYEN, Honourable Commissioner for Works. Beyond blackmail and campaign of calumny, which I presumed will be tagged the quintessence of this piece by his planted media arsenals in their rebuttals, I will state unequivocally that my brother AKPARAWA EPHRAIM INYANGEYEN has flagrantly strayed from the oath of office administered to him on July 6, 2015; the very part that binds him “that I will not allow my personal interest to influence my official conduct or my official decisions – that I will abide by the Code of Conduct contained in the Fifth Schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; that in all circumstances, I will do right to all manner of people, according to law, without fear or favour, affection or ill-will”- negating this part of the oath makes him veer from the path of patriotism, humanitarianism and selfless service, which is a tradition of any public office holder, gearing towards political perdition by undertakings that have criminal pointer to his personae.
To buttress my points, AKPARAWA EPHRAIM INYANGEYEN as Commissioner of Works has awarded anonymously several road contracts including the ongoing road construction off Ikot Akpan Abia road to self, via a company named NCT whose sons are directors and run by his proxy, Barr. Austin Ekwere, a crime punishable by law according to the code of conduct in the fifth schedule to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. MR. INYANGEYEN has in a period of one year in office bought half of his village even into the swamps, filling and piling the swamps for construction purpose with no hoot to the wellbeing of the common men who live in tattered mud houses around, with claims that one of the company’s contracting for the state built his house. Why should a company working for the state, supervised by the works department under the watch of Mr. Inyang indulge in this disguised way of bribery and corruption? This is a clear indication of conflict of interest in the discharge of his constitutional enshrined duties, which is antithetical to section 6, subsection (1) of the fifth schedule to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (A public officer shall not ask for or accept property or benefits of any kind for himself or any other person on account of anything done or omitted to be done by him in the discharge of his duties.). AKPARAWA EPHRAIM INYANGEYEN uses the wife’s company for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of contracts awarded to any company under his administration. One year into office, he has purchased 10-hectares of land located along Ikot Udoma village in Eket Local Government, a prospective site for his dream university. AKPARAWA EPHRAIM INYANG’S wife supplies diesel for street lighting in Uyo metropolis. Now may I ask without any fear of litigation, does this qualities portray decency in a public domain? Was this man’s integrity subjected to thorough scrutiny before being offered a sit in a professionally led administration? Because his actions are unethical, selfish, unpatriotic, and pathetic to the course of governance and has no room for humility; thereby creating more enemies for the good Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel. To me, Mr. Ephraim Inyang’s positive intent in governmental issues is in doubt. But this is the same Commissioner who says if you buy a land for 100Million naira, and raises a 20Million naira structure, during compensation for demolition, the government will only pay you for the structures and not the land, as every land belongs to the government.

Nevertheless, I believe and support the dakkadda creed. I believe the promulgator of the “dakkadda” ideology. I also believe in the need to rise and chart a new course for us, our children and a generation of Akwa Ibomites unborn. But, could this be actualized if there is a replication of the biblical Ephraim’s virtues in our Ephraim Inyang, who committed whoredom, exalted himself in Israel and was killed by God according to the book of Hosea? These will not be achievable should we, who are witnesses to the oppression, accretion of wealth and properties with public funds and the greedy qualities of EPHRAIM INYANG to go unchallenged. This will not be achievable if the masses who own the mandate that gives him the sit he occupies, watch helplessly while their pockets remain empty and their freedom eroded by a supposed brother. To be candid, AKPARAWA EPHRAIM INYANG is a gladiator that should be sent to the arena to fight his hostile temperament with those in the same page. Governor Emmanuel should note that his kitchen cabinet member, friend and ally is a cancer growing, spreading, and the only proper thing to do is to cut it out, else he will see himself alone when it would matter most in the not too distant time.
I challenge Akparawa Ephraim Inyang to prove me wrong in refuting the claims by filing for libel in any court of competent jurisdiction, and I will be forced to bring to the fore proves that will shock him to his marrow. I also challenge Mr. Inyangeyen to prove me wrong by gathering the same ONNA stakeholders who appended their signature in a rebuttal of a piece that was published in the mail newspaper with caption “ONNA PEOPLE REJECT EPHRAIM INYANG” to re-append their signature on his behalf, if they do, then I am a liar.
Government is a continuum revolving among political classes. It was Akpabio’s turn from 2007 – 2015. It is Mr. Udom’s turn from 2015-2023, hopefully. No one knows where the governmental pendulum will swing to next. I can remember vividly in Godswill Akpabio’s first tenure, there was one gladiator and Mr. Know-it-all, Bishop Samuel Akpan, who made many critical decisions and oversaw almost all governmental affairs, although he never slapped people like Mr. Inyangeyen does, but the curtain of leadership was closed at him when pride drove him crazy. Now that pride is driving Mr. Inyangeyen crazy because of the priviledges accorded by the Governor, he should beware and commit to memory the adage that says “when the gods wants to kill a man they first of all make him crazy”, because this signs of insanity in Ephraim Inyang depicts the handwork of the gods who are conspiring to bring him down in no time.
